34 232430 87970579 I struggled with this decision. This is no doubt a pioneer in narrative-driven games/walking simulators (or whatever you may choose to call it), but somehow it didn't hit home for me. Perhaps twas an overdose of me spending hours and hours on more polished games which were inspired by Gone Home (Firewatch, LiS, Edith Finch, etc.) Or perhaps it was simply that this is simply a proof-of-concept, an unpolished sand-boxed version of a brilliant genre. So if you're a newb to this genre and you don't mind a few hours of story driven gameplay, by all means, I highly recommend this game, its a perfect appetizer to a very exciting genre. But if I take out the pioneering aspect (or should I say, respect) of this game, I fail to see how I could recommend this to anyone and guarantee that they'd like it. My major gripe with it is the lack of any form of puzzle/choice/gameplay element, however so minor it may be. Yes, I know that's expecting a lot but the narrative ain't Shakespeare either, mind you. It's interesting, but cannot make up for the lack of any other gameplay aspect. Firewatch was better in presentation, heck What Remains of Edith Finch is also about exploring a house and is in a similar vein as that of Gone home, but that is a freaking masterpiece. Some pros: The house really feels lived in - Excellent design work on that front. Brilliant voice acting - About the only thing that made me finish the game. Secret Meow achievement was hilarious, also some easter eggs hidden throughout the house deserve a chuckle. Verdict: Mild "Not recommended". Buy on sale if you've got to and if the premise interests you. Its only ~3-4 hours for a completionist run. 2021-03-14T05:51:59.486169 1 1
