636320 82726740 Is Mr. HOF studios going to remove this game from my steam library for leaving this negative review? 2021-03-14T05:51:52.022986 1 1
636320 79300849 The game gets repetitive and boring quite quickly, not to mention that there are still bugs like game getting stuck on the AI turn, or UI not responding. 2021-03-14T05:51:52.183391 1 1
636320 76571900 clearly inspired by ftl, jagged alliance and xcom great pixel art awful music boring, by the numbers repetitive gameplay with a gameplay loop that doesn't really work poorly implemented and designed ui overpowered abilities and class skills with lack of balance repetitive almost identical maps and enemies boring fetch quest missions with a lack of decision and consequences or tough decisions on the "ftl" node overworld. If you're dying to scratch a turn based strategy combat rpg itch, this is a bottom of the barrell solution. Check out underrail instead which is a far superior game for a budget price. 2021-03-14T05:51:52.352142 1 1
636320 71664911 It's bad. 2021-03-14T05:51:52.517699 1 1
636320 63794423 I'd like a refund. 2021-03-14T05:51:52.694377 1 1
636320 55247062 It's so hard to put more than 2 hours into this game when the whole first hour was already repetitive. Finished a map and need to move your people. It switches back and forth between characters so you can take 3 steps across a huge map. The game isn't hard at all and there isn't much of a reason for creating different characters considering the strength in snipers. 2021-03-14T05:51:52.862084 1 1
636320 51325261 Game gets boring fast. A lot of bugs that make you restart the game. 2021-03-14T05:51:53.029147 1 1
636320 48311595 game feels like work; kinda too grindy; too bad was looking forward to it. 2021-03-14T05:51:53.200240 1 1
636320 47646020 This game is an exercise is tedium and brings nothing new to the genre. Could be good, but pacing is too slow and combat too repetitive. Lost whole team of max level character after last "patch update" due to 3 game errors. 1) First, one of my guys leaves follow mode to run into the darkness after an unseen fuel can. Before patch, your guys only grabbed what was visible on screen. Interestingly as well is that the other 2 guys with higher movement and 1 with higher visibilty never went for it, nor even sensed the fuel can deep in the fog of war. 1 man down. 2) I run my shotgunners in the fray. Turns out thier main and ONLY useful skill close combat is broken ( an extra shot each round when point blank, was UNLIMTED shots pre-patch). Since they dont get the extra shot now i have 2 sitting ducks in the midst of 5 enemies. 3) Somehow my shotgunners barely survive the counter attack. One shoots and kills a close enemy and i activate the "hit and run" skill. So i try to run behind cover since i was standing in open expecting to fire twice from game error #1. Now another enemy ( the big boss ) kills me from overwatch! What?!?!? It does not say "overwatch" above his character as the game always used to indicate when an enemy ( or friend) is in that stance. SO 2 down. Well, other the second shotgunner is in same boat, so i hit and run to cover only to be killed by the over watch again!!!!! Apparantly the boss moved, fired, then sat in overwatch for 2 extra shots after that without any indicator either time. Well now down to my sniper who does not last long againstremaining enemies. Way tooooooo tedious to regrind 4 characters back to level 10 to attempt this fight again. Took like 20 hours the first time to get this far. Soooooo, i tried again, and.............. While moving around on screen, your guys randomly freeze ( as though stopped by an invisible hand). Once stuck, they will NEVER come unstuck until rest of team encounters an enemy. And then the guy is soooo far behind that he cannot help in fight. Also t… 2021-03-14T05:51:53.389339 1 1

636320 45399843 It's repetitive and painfully so. Combat is dry and slow. Exploration is slow and not worth the time. 2021-03-14T05:51:53.738748 1 1
636320 45363369 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCAI_S8X2Bw These developers revoked the Steam Key (beta from itch.io) of a user for posting a negative critique of the game. They have issued a new key and apologized, but this still paints the picture of a developer to be VERY wary of. In regards to the game, if this were 1/2 the $20 asking price, I woul dbe singing it's praises. As it is $20 it comes in at a price point where there are additional levels of expectation that simply are not being met. Coupole that with the now untrustworthy nature of the developers, and I would recommend giving this game a pass at least until the Devs prove themselves or the game is discounted to the $10 mark or below. 2021-03-14T05:51:53.916080 1 1
636320 45236301 Played over 4 hours, and still all the combats almost the same. Zero pleasure from gameplay. Great dissapointment. 2021-03-14T05:51:54.084557 1 1
636320 45024940 Ooooookay... I've played my fill of this game after two hours. That's not where a roguelike should put me. The fact that this game could be played indefinitely is, to be frank, frightening. I'm going to ruminate on this, and finish this review in a bit. Probably tomorrow. For first impressions though: don't bother. Especially at this price. Addendum: I've thought about this. Here’s a review. To start, the most glaring issue: the AI. The fact that I can have a gun battle in one room, with individuals unaware of this gun battle in the next room is a leap of logic which I found difficult to make. I was left to assume: "Maybe it's because bulkhead doors are a lot thicker than normal, and wouldn't transfer sound as well. But that means that this place doesn't have an intruder alarm? How are people not aware that I am killing EVERYONE in this base?!?" The character movement aspects are something which definitely points out how unaware my AI opponents were: after I killed everyone in a room, I could move at twice the normal speed due to the fact that no one knew I was there. I appreciate this from a “okay, come on, let’s get to the action” perspective, but at the same time, that means that no one alive in the building I just broke into, guns ablaze, is aware of the fact that I am here. I am left to assume this game is set in an alternate future where living in submarines for long periods of time is possible, while handheld radio transmitters are some sort of unattainable technology. A suggestion to the dev: I don’t want the games I play to be prescriptive. I want to feel challenged. In the two hours I’d played, I went from a fear of being flanked or surrounded to the absolute knowledge that being flanked was impossible because no one in the base I was raiding was aware of the fact that I was raiding. I am not sure how you do this, but I’d suggest that you allow enemies to approach from the rear of an advancing party. At least have ambushes set in a room. Perhaps make use of some sort of lighting aspect for vision/a… 2021-03-14T05:51:54.264900 1 1
636320 45174807 Fun for a while, but insanely repetitive and a real slog to get through, and not even really hard after the first couple missions. 2021-03-14T05:51:54.419910 1 1
636320 44981442 Ok little turn based game but so bloated. Gameplay is boring and retitive after few hours and authors are prommising 100 hours to beat this? No thank you. 2021-03-14T05:51:54.595573 1 1
636320 45110119 Like many, I was drawn by the description of the game as a marriage of FTL and XCom, both highly enjoyable games. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to join the chorus of negative reviews: Depth of Extinction is simply too repetitive. I made it far enough to unlock two new areas (of 5), unlock a new class, complete the first story mission, and hunt down a new weapon. So I feel qualified to state: When you've played the first mission, you've played every mission. Actually, it's even worse than that. When you've opened ONE room, you've opened them all. That is how small the game's core loop is. You put your soldiers in good cover outside of a door and turn on overwatch. You open the door. You patiently murder enemies. Then you do the next door. A single 'encounter' is made up of 3-6+ rooms/doors. A map node is made up of 2-5+ encounters. A mission is made up of 2-5+ map nodes. So a single mission - of which I can estimate you'll need 30-40 to reasonably beat the game and unlock most stuff - consists of 60 rooms. So to beat the game, you'll need to defeat 2500+ rooms. And very little changes between them. But it's worth noting, what does change? The game does scratch that nice RPG itch of unlocking new items and abilities. You'll get new armor (which increases HP & provides defense against the 4-5 status effects in the game); new weapons (which fall into the categories of heavy, launcher, rifle, sniper, SMG, shotgun, and spear); new usable items (like medkits & grenades); and new passive items (like ammo types that add status effects). In addition to that, there's 6-9 classes, whose abilities are rather standard fare when it comes to the genre. I swear some of them are even named the same as the identical abilities found in X-Com. Furthermore, you'll encounter an admittedly slow escalation of new enemy types, who use different weapons and have different abilities. That said, none of this really changes your tactics. At best, the occasional open world map provides a slight variance. But for the most part, the cor… 2021-03-14T05:51:54.754716 1 1
636320 45138161 I really couldn't get into the game. The enemy just runs up to you and shoots you. The distance between cover is pretty large. 2021-03-14T05:51:54.931632 1 1
636320 45093228 I bought this game on a whim, and while the gameplay is competently executed, the harder I tried to build a good team with 2 frontline mercs (shotgun/SMG), 1 midrange merc (rifle/minigun) and one sniper, the maps and encounters rarely rewarded such a balanced approach. The mechanics favor a strategy with three snipers that camp outside a door, and one super-mobile frontliner that goes in, aggros the mobs, then runs back through the door and takes cover while the snipers overwatch everyone to death, emerging to activate snap shot to empty both barrels of their shottie into anyone left standing. That just isn't challenging, so it isn't a lot of fun. Another obstacle to building a balanced team is that the snipers and frontliners get the lion's share of the kills, because the cover is generally close to or far way from the enemies, so the slow-moving merc with the minigun is left overwatching next to the sniper turn after turn, rarely shooting at anything, and since kills are based mostly on hits and kills, the other mercs level up faster. You could put the midrange merc up with the frontliners, but again, there's usually only one or two good cover spots within range of the enemies, especially when coming out of a corridor or doorway, which is usually when you spot the enemies. One of the biggest problems is that the enemy AI doesn't seem to know how overwatch works. Not only do the enemies not use overwatch, they will blithely run into the middle of the room to get a shot off instead of staying in cover, and can be counted upon to follow your mercs into another room, even if doing so will end their move in open ground. All squad-based tactics, even simple flanking maneuvers, are completely unnecessary when the only tactic the enemy employs is 'shoot at the mercs, even if you die right afterwards'. This is even more disappointing when the level design clearly favors some kind of tactical engagement, with tons of destructible cover, rooms divided by hallways, and narrow bottlenecks, but after playing through… 2021-03-14T05:51:55.100715 1 1
636320 45065991 Unfortunately, the words FTL and XCOM hooked me into buying this title on release, and while numerous mechanics are superficially shared between DoE and the former 2 games, very little of the soul is. I agree with the other reviewers that DoE is not much more than a repetitive string of simple enter a room and shoot what’s there bland moments, something which a cover system (XCOM) and branching exploration node mechanic (FTL) don’t make any more interesting. DoE is like a mixture of all of your favorite exotic vegetables, thrown together and boiled down all day into a near tasteless mush, whose menu description only serves to foster an unrealistic expectation based upon your experiences with multiple separate dishes previously prepared by more skilled chefs. Moreover, while I was originally defensive upon reading the first few reviews that criticized the simplistic pixelated graphics of DoE (i.e. kneejerk thinking that gamers who loved FTL were far more into the gameplay aspect than hi-res sprites) it is true that this game’s graphics are not only ugly, but also confusing, with an exaggerated/forced sense of overhead perspective where objects blend from one hex into the other in a non-intuitive fashion leaving one hovering their pointer over hexes to determine if they are actually viable movement options. DoE needs more variety of, …well everything in order to create it its own sense of immersion and unique personality, and currently feels like playing an old MS-DOS based game from the late 80’s, only without the nostalgic charm, with all of the ‘just one more turn’ excitement of working on an EXCEL spreadsheet. I’ll end my review with the damning phrase utilized by reviewers of similar gaming disappointments, “I really wanted to love this game, I really did, but…”. 2021-03-14T05:51:55.272427 1 1
636320 45075477 I had been looking forward to this title for some time, however in its current state I just cannot recommend purchasing it. Though the concept of a game which takes the replay value of FTL and combines it with the tactical turn-based combat of X-COM sounds truly amazing, Depth of Extinction sadly fails to do this. What we are left with instead is a tedious slog through repetative encounters to reach an objective that we don't really care about. I often found myself going out of my way just to avoid the combat encounters simply because they are just so boring. Despite this fairly negative review it must be taken into account that indie developers are of course on a much tighter budget, and with that in mind I will hold on to the hope that future updates will perhaps add a bit more variety to the game, primarily the combat, which I feel needs to flow much more, rather than each encounter being a series of small rooms with a mere 2-3 enemies per room to clear out. 2021-03-14T05:51:55.442370 1 1
636320 45047847 Not worth the $20 it costs. The levels are extremely repetitive, pulling from 2 different environments with maybe 5 or 6 different rooms for each one. Several gameplay elements are completely unnecessary, like the Alert meter (One would assume it indicates some possibility of stealth, but it really only shows whether or not you are in battle) and the fuel supply (You pick up enough fuel in levels that unless you avoid most encounters and have a string of bad luck in the ones you do deal with, you're never gonna run out of it). The voice acting is very lackluster, and having both your characters and enemies throw out cheesy one-liners every time they do anything gets very annoying very fast. Several of the character classes are completely broken, making the game ridiculously easy. (Assaults in particular, get a class skill that lets them attack for free if they're within two spaces of their target, and everyone can get a skill that lets them reload for free. Combine the two, and any semblance of difficulty dies at the end of your shotgun.) The story is almost non-existent, which isn't necessarily bad by itself, but with all the other bad elements puts the final nail in the coffin. Overall, the game has a very rough unfinished feel. I would compare it to a flash game, but I've seen better-made flash games that don't cost you $20. 2021-03-14T05:51:55.604759 1 1
636320 45044687 Pros: * Well fleshed-out, mechanically-satisfying tactics system that's easy to learn and intuit. * "Follow mode" saves you the hassle of issuing your units orders individually when no enemies are around. * Lots of classes. Cons: * Extremely repetitive environments and combat scenarios. It's basically the same few tile-sets and enemy groups reused over and over again. * Very poorly balanced. * Can't turn off the annoying pauses that happen whenever you see an enemy or loot box. While I was having fun with this game initially due to its really good tactics system, I eventually realized that it's very shallow and overall poorly-executed. Even setting aside the cookie-cutter combat encounters that all play out more or less the same way, the game's balance is completely broken, especially in terms of difficulty. It's laughably easy to turn your units into unstoppable killing machines and faceroll through any encounter, no matter how challenging it's supposed to be, to the point that it completely stops being fun. Heck, you can beat most encounters with just one properly-specced level 8 assault class. Depth of extinction might be adequate as a "Baby's First Squad Tactics Game", but for genre veterans I'd recommend giving it a hard pass. 2021-03-14T05:51:55.773494 1 1
636320 45038510 Meh, wish steam had a refund policy. 2021-03-14T05:51:55.957531 1 1
636320 45034143 If you are an X-Com fan it's good fun for an hour or so but quickly several problems arise that for the moment make me not recommend this game. Pros: * Soundtrack is banging * Follow mode is fantastic (here's hoping we see something like that in the next X-Com) * Combat feels good at the start * Nice customization, variety of items, weapons, etc. * Enjoyed the leveling and growing of the characters in general Cons: * There needs to be more maps to play in. You very quickly get tired of the exact same maps with different but not different enough layouts. There is never enough space for your guys which leads to them either never doing anything or standing out in the open. * More variety of enemy types. * In general everything takes too long. Walking around takes forever, which is further exaccerbated by how many encounters you need to do to complete a mission. You can beeline for the end but then I wonder why put all these paths in place? * Everyone is too powerful. I use a ballistic mask on my warden and have him hunker down somewhere. Everyone runs to the enemies and kills them as quickly as possible as they won't attack them until the next round. I have so much health that even if one makes it it's no big deal. * Difficulty needs tweaked. Breezing through hard missions without so much as a care using the above strat. * It's clear the game dev loves X-Com and FTL as it shows here. However the abilities are copied almost verbatim and more thought needs to be put on making these abilities balanced in this game. The map where you go from encounter to encounter is interesting but the repeated maps/areas quickly make it so you just want to beeline for the exit, rendering it useless. * Maybe there is a reason to pick different ships but honestly it didn't really seem to matter which one I took. Perhaps later in the game it starts to impact things but I think a lot could be done to improve this selection from the start. There is a good game here but needs a few tweaks, content, and balancing there. It's cheap and if… 2021-03-14T05:51:56.120604 1 1
636320 45033034 Ironically, no depth 2021-03-14T05:51:56.297079 1 1
636320 45018528 I wanted to like this game, I really did. I was hoping for an atmospheric. difficult tactical game. What I got was a surprisingly dry, uninspired game borrowing from others. I got to the end of the first area and just didn't care enough anymore to finish it. On paper this game sounds great, but the execution of it is rather lacking. I never felt tension, everything looked rather samey, and the pixel graphics are lacking in personality. I guess I wanted something more in line with old Terror From the Deep, this was not that game I guess. It's not an awful game by any means, it just lack drive and a wow factor to keep things going dooming it to being another game to rot away in my library. 2021-03-14T05:51:56.454630 1 1
636320 45008937 The music and graphics for this game are great. It is very similar to XCOM and FTL, and the world is interesting. Unfortunately, the gameplay is mindnumbingly boring. I decided to play longer than 2 hours, hoping the gameplay would open up, but each and every engagement is exactly the same. Save your money. 2021-03-14T05:51:56.623104 1 1
636320 45003301 When people compare this game to XCOM, they fail to mention that a lot of the skills seem to come straight out of XCOM 2. 2021-03-14T05:51:56.781222 1 1
636320 44999754 People say it plays like Xcom and that got me sucked me in. I started playing it and quickly realized this is EXTREMELY boring and repetitive. It is NOTHING like Xcom, don't believe that nonsense for a second. Save your money for a sale on an actual Xcom game or something that's actually fun. 2021-03-14T05:51:56.950695 1 1
636320 44996326 I am a huge fan of FTL and XCom and so figured this would be an instant buy. But as much as I wanted to like this game I can't. Although the concept and potential are great, Depth of Extinction turns into a dull grind very quickly. The encounters are too repetitve and it feels as if you are endlessly fighting the same battles. The difficulty, items and experience are not scaling up fast enough. This really is a shame, because if this game would have its total gameplay length reduced to 1-1,5 hours and would make you fail a few times before the finishline it would have been amazing. 2021-03-14T05:51:57.111732 1 1
636320 44989193 I've been sucked here by x-com vibes, but apparently it's a "new" xcom, with cover-shoot mechanics, how lovely... Well, I haven't seen much, but all 5 missions where exactly same, same boredom of mediocrity. Not to mention "quality of life" things. FFS if you are doing rogue like game with permadeath, do not make tile engine so prone to misclick. 2021-03-14T05:51:57.281582 1 1
232430 88331315 I'm a bit torn on this one, but I decided to go for a no after all. As a walking simulator, I think this game succeeds just fine. The story is interesting, I felt engaged enough to continue and gather all the pieces and the pacing is well done. You discover new hints and locations as you go, and the house is large enough to space everything out, including several secrets. However, where the game really fails for me is the atmosphere. The house is big, empty, dark and the rain and thunder don't really help. I felt afraid the ENTIRE time while playing this, even though the Internet had told me there would be no jump scares. That creepy basement, those creepy passages, having to walk into a dark and scary looking room towards a little rope to turn on the light, it is horrible. My mind saw a million places that ghosts or monsters could jump from. And you find an Ouija board, with scary things some ghost could have said, and that makes it even worse. So why is this a problem? Simple: if you want me to feel the story, go through the narrative emotionally, the WORST thing you can do is clench my heart and stomach in fear. Fear blocks out everything, and I stopped enjoying the game after walking through the front door. Only in retrospect can I appreciate the story, when the nightmare of that empty creepy place is gone and I am looking at my desktop again. After a few rooms, with the thunder echoing outside while I scrambled for the light switch, we simply turned off the sound. Only when subtitles appeared, indicating that Sam was telling a story, did we turn it on, and as soon as Sam was done we muted it again. Her voice-acting is great, so well worth it, but every creak, thud and other sound just made me feel an uncomfortable shiver. I started noticing shapes in curtains that scared me and I felt nothing but fear. And that is why I do not recommend it. It's a decisive game in gaming history according to several articles on the Internet, so I'm happy to have played it. But I'm also SO happy it's done. Whew... 2021-03-14T05:51:59.317057 1 1
232430 87970579 I struggled with this decision. This is no doubt a pioneer in narrative-driven games/walking simulators (or whatever you may choose to call it), but somehow it didn't hit home for me. Perhaps twas an overdose of me spending hours and hours on more polished games which were inspired by Gone Home (Firewatch, LiS, Edith Finch, etc.) Or perhaps it was simply that this is simply a proof-of-concept, an unpolished sand-boxed version of a brilliant genre. So if you're a newb to this genre and you don't mind a few hours of story driven gameplay, by all means, I highly recommend this game, its a perfect appetizer to a very exciting genre. But if I take out the pioneering aspect (or should I say, respect) of this game, I fail to see how I could recommend this to anyone and guarantee that they'd like it. My major gripe with it is the lack of any form of puzzle/choice/gameplay element, however so minor it may be. Yes, I know that's expecting a lot but the narrative ain't Shakespeare either, mind you. It's interesting, but cannot make up for the lack of any other gameplay aspect. Firewatch was better in presentation, heck What Remains of Edith Finch is also about exploring a house and is in a similar vein as that of Gone home, but that is a freaking masterpiece. Some pros: The house really feels lived in - Excellent design work on that front. Brilliant voice acting - About the only thing that made me finish the game. Secret Meow achievement was hilarious, also some easter eggs hidden throughout the house deserve a chuckle. Verdict: Mild "Not recommended". Buy on sale if you've got to and if the premise interests you. Its only ~3-4 hours for a completionist run. 2021-03-14T05:51:59.486169 1 1
232430 87342041 I was expecting a supernatural or scifi mystery. The game went down that path and stopped at a dead end. Instead the game turned out to be a
teenage lesbian love
story. If that sounds titillating, it's not. The game is boring. I got the cheevos, because they were quick and easy, but I would have preferred a refund. Not worth even $1. 2021-03-14T05:51:59.662888 1 1
232430 87200307 Story was okay but just wasn't as good as some similar style games in my opinion. 2021-03-14T05:51:59.868718 1 1
232430 87198580 Yeah, it's a walking simulator. I guess it may be of interest to those who want a vaguely interactive audio book, and it is nicely made, but it wasn't really my thing. It took about 90 mins for me to complete with one achievement but I'm not interested enough in it to revisit it to get all the achievements. 2021-03-14T05:52:00.043831 1 1
232430 86753634 Fullbright need to go and watch Firewatch before attempting to another game. I bought this in the sale for just over £5.00 after playing it I was glad I did, paying anything over that price will more than likely leave you disappointed and probably annoyed. The game drags you in with a creepy house, flickering lights and eerie sounds then after about 30 mins of play lets you into what the story is really about and then leaves you deflated at the end. It seems that Fullbright lost their way with whatever story they had intended and came up with some teenage romance. Leave it alone there are better games of this ilk out there. 2021-03-14T05:52:00.228271 1 1
232430 86545105 Gameplay annoying and boring 2021-03-14T05:52:00.435740 1 1
232430 86041819 What I've just played here is one of the most insanely idiotic games I have ever seen. At no point in it's rambling, incoherent story was it even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone on Steam is now dumber for having played it. I award no thumbs up, and may God have mercy on your Developer. 2021-03-14T05:52:00.606786 1 1
232430 85962913 Gameplay is a bit boring. And the ending disappointing 2021-03-14T05:52:00.772729 1 1
232430 85859188 I'm gonna give my first actual review and say that its okay but its worth like $2 MAYBE, there is so much buildup with the spooky atmosphere and Sam's cryptic messages just to be disappointed, at least that's how i felt, also i beat it in like 90 mins without a guide, this game only got notoriety because of the LGBT themes, which i have nothing against just that shouldn't define how good a game is 2021-03-14T05:52:00.948389 1 1
232430 16801998 I paid 2.39 and still feel cheated. I can enjoy a clickfest like LA Noire or any telltale title, but this is about an hour and a half of "gameplay". By gameplay I mean click a lettter, move to the next room, and listen to your sisters love story narration until you reach the last room and it ends abruptly. Thanks for the deal steam. If you see a review like this: “Gone Home is the greatest video game love story ever told.” The New York Times DON'T EVER READ A REVIEW FROM THEM AGAIN. 2021-03-14T05:52:01.136623 1 1
232430 85122678 Walking simulator and the story reads not much different than live journal entries. 2021-03-14T05:52:01.323025 1 1
232430 28991030
★★★✰✰
Gone Home lures you in with a mystery, follows up with a good story, but fails to tell it in a compelling manner. Gameplay is nothing short of a "note reading simulator", as that's what you'll be doing 90% of the time - going from room to room and sifting through large amounts of filler, underneath which the story is buried. The experience is further dulled by lack of interesting environments, since the entirety of the game takes place in one big but for the most part ordinary house. While the story was fairly interesting (assuming you're not put off by the subject matter) and with a satisfying ending - most of the gameplay was just tedious. 2021-03-14T05:52:01.498450 1 1
232430 85011754 Was expecting a murder mystery or a haunted house puzzle game. Turned out a lesbian girl ran away. 2021-03-14T05:52:01.682738 1 1
232430 84797109 Don't waste your time or money with this game. Just awful! 2021-03-14T05:52:01.871872 1 1
232430 84790235 If I could refund this game, I would. The story is so bland and uninteresting, the game should have been free by now. 2021-03-14T05:52:02.045604 1 1
232430 84672154 The exploration aspect is pretty good, but there is little else to truly appreciate. The praise it receives for it's story as being "brave" is hyperbolic, as even in 2013 the subject wasn't really that controversial or taboo. 2021-03-14T05:52:02.285458 1 1
232430 84360067 sjw garbage. way too short. everyone who purchased deserves a full refund honestly 2021-03-14T05:52:02.479329 1 1
232430 84102128 I found my mouse moved at a snail's speed and It was very annoying. I'm not computer smart so couldn't mess around trying to fix it. I understand it's a good game, if you have the patience to walk around at 1/4 reg. speed. 2021-03-14T05:52:02.660580 1 1
232430 83955775 Meh, too boring. You just walk around the house (painfully slow) listening to dialogs about some lesbian relationship between two characters you don't give a damn about because you don't know jack about them. There's also this false sense of suspense, like something is going to happen any moment, but it never does. The game ends abruptly and you're left wondering what the hell just happened and what was all this about. 2021-03-14T05:52:02.826491 1 1

232430 83691138 While I've enjoyed a number of "Walking Simulators" (What Remains of Edith Finch, Dear Esther, Firewatch, Vanishing of Ethan Carter) I can't recommend this one. It started out interesting. You arrive you're home expecting to see you family but you find it deserted. It's a stormy atmosphere with lightning flashing and strange noises in the house. You can't wait to find what danger and mystery lurks in the house. But what do you find? Nothing of consequence. A house scattered with letters detailing a story of teen lesbian angst. What's upstairs in that attic that you finally have the key to? NOTHING. More letters. Even if your a fan of walking simulators I recommend you skip this one. Unless maybe you can relate to the teenage lesbian angle. 2021-03-14T05:52:03.185515 1 1
232430 83601930 TL;DR: It's not a bad game, but not a particularly good one either. It's OK, in the "get it if it is on sale" category. This game is about exploring a house, putting together the story from breadcrumbs. There are no puzzles or anything like that. At certain points, you listen to your sister's journal, which gives the majority of the story. The rest can be deduced from notes and letters, and observing the environment in general. The main story is generally well executed, but other than being about a lesbian couple, is nothing out of ordinary. The voice acting is also really good. The handwritten letters are pretty nice too. Some reviewers like the game because of the LGBT themes in it, and eagerly accuse those who don't like it of homophobia. They say that there is more to this game than the LGBT story. The thing is, yes, there is more to it, but not by much. If you rush through it, then all you'll find is the main story, and little else. If you look more thoroughly, then there are more details about your parents and even your great-uncle, but that's not that out of ordinary either, and they get lost easily behind the main story. If you are a horror fan, you probably won't like this game. It start out building suspense with some typical horror elements: an allegedly haunted house, a dead psycho uncle, ominous rain and thunder, foreboding music, your sister into occult things. But at the end it's all just forgotten, and all that remains is a romance plot sprinkled with some family troubles. As for the exploration part, I love the genre, but I've played such games that are better than this one. The house is big but mostly bland. There are important details here and there, mostly notes and letters, but mostly there are large and uninteresting spaces and mundane items. 2021-03-14T05:52:03.363703 1 1
232430 83430843 I am all for explorative stories. I find them really relaxing and interesting, but I have no idea what to even classify this as. Can this even be considered a "game"? You literally walk around a house and turn on lights and pickup crumpled notes out of trash cans. I finished this "game" in about an hour. The story was seriously lacking and the entire thing was super misleading. There is nothing of the "scary/paranormal" variety in the entirety of the "game"; unless you're scared of thunderstorms as background noise or the presence of a Ouija board. The best two words to describe this "game" would be BORING and MISLEADING. Don't waste your money. 2021-03-14T05:52:03.547617 1 1
232430 83369855 It's alright but nothing special. It probably got a lot of praise because it
promotes homosexuality
, which is all the rage theses days. If you
replace Sam's girlfriend with a guy
, the magic is gone. Hell, I'd even bet that if
you'd replace the lesbian couple with 2 dudes
it would get a whole lot less praise. 2021-03-14T05:52:03.710464 1 1
232430 83304248 This game made me realize I hate walking sims. Because there is a lot here that is beautifully crafted -- from intriguing items that reveal minor characters' backstories, to the well-acted voice overs, to the touching narrative. But the lack of any mechanics besides slooooooow walking and picking things up made the stakes too low for me to get truly involved. I wish there was more to interact with here, like in Night in the Woods or something. 5/10 Hopefully Eastshade and Firewatch are more involving... 2021-03-14T05:52:03.915286 1 1
232430 83210721 The game begins strong. It’s dark, it’s raining, it’s thundering. The atmosphere is well set and a sense of impending doom is induced. Your mind quickly races to nefarious reasons for your house being empty on such a gloomy night, as you explore the house you do so with caution and that impending doom remains. Upon investigating the various rooms within the house, you find that your father is a failing author who specialises in the JFK conspiracy. Meanwhile you discover that due to your ‘psyco’ uncle’s recent death, your family has inherited this forever stained house, full of secret rooms and passages. Many clues of the potential supernatural hiding within the house are laid out. Through more searching, you discover that your sister Sam is very much a product of the 90s' and is enveloped within the punk scene, she is at the peak of her coming of age and her feelings towards another girl consumes her every thought. This relationship unfortunately becomes the prime motive of the entire game, and this is Gone Home’s downfall, the relationship is promoted to the forefront and provides only slight interest for the player. The biggest downfall, however is at the end of the game when you open the attic, all the built-up atmosphere and time you have spent exploring every corner of the house is completely wasted, and the player is left feeling disappointed. This is most defiantly not a fully-fledged game and even when on sale, you’re likely to regret your purchase. 2021-03-14T05:52:04.104061 1 1
232430 83060647 The game is extremely disappointing, especially if you play it because "it's similar to Firewatch". Hell no. At the beginning it seemed intriguing. I really tried to read all the letters and magazine covers, pick up random stuff and open every cabinet door to find clues, invest myself in the characters and feel the atmosphere. I was prepared for a mysterious story and a dramatic ending (lots of clues led me to believe there was one). Instead there were these annoying thunderstorm sounds, countless highlighters, pens, mugs, pillows etc. and countless random letters & notes which didn't matter in the end. All this just to tell a story about your homosexual sister?! But what about the paranormal activity captured by girls? What was the story behind the "psycho house"? Did the "crazy uncle" actually go nuts? How? Why? And oh, by the way... who the hell was Jan??? 2021-03-14T05:52:04.300899 1 1
232430 42226365 For reasons that escape me, the game just never managed to feel right for me. Way to void and unattractive. Walking simulators can be amazing, not this one though. It leaves a ´so that´s it?´ sensation. Play What Remains of Edith Finch for a really great experience. 2021-03-14T05:52:04.470225 1 1
232430 81532228 Not for me unfortunately. :( 2021-03-14T05:52:04.640460 1 1
232430 81496945 Murder?! Faked death?! Ghosts?! HAUNTINGS??? Nope. The big secret is [
] that your sister is gay. I thought this was a horror game, not a social commentary on being "different." But it was whatever until I found the poster about fighting the patriarchy. Then I was done. Sh*t like this should come with a warning label. I miss when games were just games, not propaganda delivery systems. Boys, don't waste your money. This game and its creators hate you for being male. Girls? Don't support the toxic left. 2021-03-14T05:52:04.824462 1 1
232430 81157171 Gone Home took me 69 minutes to complete the first time I played. That was about 69 minutes too long for me. Gone Home starts out intriguing, with you returning from a European vacation to an empty house. Your parents and younger sister have disappeared into a stormy night, and you have no idea why. It's your job to explore the house and figure out what happened. That setup is pretty compelling, I have to admit. I was intrigued at first because the plot could go in a lot of different directions, and Gone Home does try to lead you to believe you may be dealing with something paranormal or sinister in both its trailers and some of its minute-to-minute gameplay. You'll hear hints of former evil in the house, find spooky hidden hallways, and even dig out a Ouija board. None of it means anything at all. You are not untangling some interesting mystery or plot, as the devs apparently want you to believe. Instead, you are being force fed a ham-fisted narrative about sexuality and relationship problems. Gone Home is not really a game so much as it is a sermon. While I have no personal issues with the general messages behind Gone Home's focus on sexuality, I do have an issue with developers stealthily using games as a means of prosthelitizing. By all means, weave your beliefs and values into your games. But use these threads to add color to a broader tapestry, not to form the main contours of your game itself. If you insist on making a game specifically designed to push a certain message, please be honest about that upfront so those of us looking for something else can avoid wasting our time. If I wanted to spend 69 minutes of my life learning more about sexuality and related social issues, I'd watch a documentary, attend a seminar, or read an in-depth article. My recommendation is that you do the same. Your gaming time is better spent on actual games, and you'll get an awful lot more out of an hour of dedicated study on this issue than you will from Gone Home's flimsy, trite story. Avoid. 2021-03-14T05:52:05.001240 1 1
232430 80431896 A dull story and short game. Not much else to say. 2021-03-14T05:52:05.180440 1 1
232430 79628484 If you're looking to play a game for the story, literally just to hear a story, then I guess buy this. You'd be better off buying a book. The game is anticlimactic, leads you to believe that there is more to be told and has you just walking around a house. The story itself is fine and you get connected to the characters, but as a game it's not worth it. 2021-03-14T05:52:05.343759 1 1
232430 79423747 Boring and expensive game. For me is no. 2021-03-14T05:52:05.529422 1 1
232430 79164432 If you're a fan of walking sims, this is one of the most enriched environments I've experienced of the genre next to the likes of Wolf Among Us. Beautiful design and great voice acting. The game really delivers on its ability to create and hold some pretty spooky tension, alongside a supernatural mystery. The reason the game gets a thumbs down for me is simply because I don't enjoy being led to believe I'm playing a horror game when it is in fact a sweet, simple love story. I understand that is the interesting through line of the story, but I do wish it were utilized for more than one jump scare and a few creepy hallways. 2021-03-14T05:52:05.698406 1 1
232430 10744260 When I first played this game I was a young kid full of hate and angst and my old review reflected that. I am editing my review because this game deserves that for what it is trying to accomplish. Although this game is still not for me, I can see where it would be appealing to some people. It has an interesting story about a young girls life and discovery of her self through the eyes of her sister. (you) 2021-03-14T05:52:05.887545 1 1

232430 78714521 Hoo boy. Finally got around to playing this one. It's not bad. If you look up the game, you will be met with tons of ign and polygon articles calling this game controversial and "decade defining". What they don't say is that the controversy has less to do with the game's narrative as it does with misleading marketing. The original trailer showed off the game as an atmospheric horror. As a result a lot of people were dissapointed to discover that that wasn't it. Which would be fine today, but back in 2013 steam refunds weren't a thing and a 2-4 hour game asking for 20$ was new. Instead of a spooky horror the game turned out to be a interactive narrative featuring teen drama and 90s references. Which appeals to a fairly narrow demographic. So putting that aside, my only gripe with the game is tit's worn out as hell main storyline. If you
substite Sam's girlfriend with a guy
it suddenly becomes painfully dull. I mean, come on, pun unintended lmao. Looking at it objectively, it is a decent but overhyped game that marked the start of a decade of audiolog littering. Worth checking out if you are interested in vidya history. 2021-03-14T05:52:06.239486 1 1

232430 77920608 Short and poorly written game. Didn't enjoy it. After all the praise I thought I'd give it a try but was totally disappointed when it ended. No ooh and aah moments in this game, it's just boring as hell. The voice acting is superb but that's about it. Glad I bought it on sale. Not recommended to pay full price. 2021-03-14T05:52:06.626136 1 1
232430 77511560 It's a good walking simulator game with a sweet story, but I can not recommend this game at it's full price. Only buy it on sale. You can finish it under an hour... 2021-03-14T05:52:06.811068 1 1
232430 77390246 The game does not run on my iMac (late 2015, 16 GB RAM, AMD Radeon R9 M380 2 GB, 3,2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5). The menu works fine, but as soon as I start a game it's so slow it feels like moving through molasses if there is any movement at all. I even set the graphics to lowest quality. 77 232430 10890970 If I had to sum my opinion of it up when it was all said and done, I'd say "Meh". I don't regret buying or playing it, and $5 is a fair price just to see what all the hype was about. Personally, I didn't relate much to the setting, the characters, or the story. I'm told that would probably heavily detract from the experience. Either way, I think this was mostly overrated by game journalists and somewhat unfairly demonized by many gamers, but I still love games like these so I'm willing to forgive its faults. I wish I could've played it without ever hearing anything about it because way too many people are going to have their opinion influenced about this one way or another due to how damn loud both camps are. REALLY excited about the game from everything you see on the Steam page and don't mind that you're going to get 2-3 hours of playtime out of it with no replay value? Go ahead, $20 might not bother you. Apprehensive because you've heard about it before and aren't sure if you'll like it or not? Wait until it's $5 or below. If nothing else, I hope this game encourages more developers to further explore the genre. Edit: I don't remember recommending this. Don't buy this unless it's 75% or more off, it's not a good game. 2021-03-14T05:52:07.658933 1 1
232430 24587424
Walking simulator, too short for the money
NOTE: If you're looking at reviews cause you saw spoilers to the plot, then you probably decided you want to get it already. In that case, at least wait until it goes on sale The game designers bill this as a "Story exploration video game" (see trailer), I'd call it a 1-2 hour walking simulator with a few puzzles thrown in, so don't expect a typical puzzle/adventure game Story: Some people will think it is utterly fantastic, some will be disappointed -- not much middle ground here. The premise is that you arrive home from a year abroad expecting to meet your parents and sister at your house, but no one seems to be there... Atmosphere and graphics: very good, they hit all sorts of 90's references very well. A few years ago this game defined what "walking simulators" are. Puzzles: I felt there were too few of them for the price of the game. Again, this is a walking simulator. If you are expecting a puzzle game you will be disappointed. Length: a few hours, a little more if you want to solve and explore everything. Apparently you can speedrun this in a few minutes, if the achievements can be believed. Call it a very nice 90's-era walking simulator with an interesting backstory and a little bit of puzzles thrown in. If you are looking for a puzzle game, don't pay more than a few dollars for it, maybe $5 if you're really into 90's America references or you want to take a chance on a game with no pre-conceived notions on what the plot is going to be. If you are really looking for a walking simulator, then you probably would enjoy it more (but I still can't see paying anywhere near full price). On the bright side, this title goes on sale periodically, so if you are patient you can get it cheaply. 2021-03-14T05:52:07.834418 1 1

232430 3311922 If you think this is going to be a scary game, you will be sorely disappointed. The mechanics themselves are awesome. Going through a house that is well detailed and being able to interact with almost any item is great. The whole time I was feeling as if the next thing I overturned would lead me into a scary abyss of horror. Then I found out it was just a story about lesbians. Don't get me wrong, I don't care about lesbians. It's quite fine that the supporting characters were homosexual. But for to have the whole story revolve around that instead of what the game pretends to be about? It's like buying a game that which insists it's a first person shooter, only to find out the game is solely trying to promote the proper use of flossing your teeth. If you get this game, just realize that exploring the house is great. Finding out the whole game was about letting you listen to a few unknown bands and revealing the droll story of a couple girls finding out their sexuality is very depressing. 2021-03-14T05:52:08.580869 1 1

232430 75660360 This is a walking simulator with little else. The ending, to me, poorly written. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.115238 1 1
232430 75252533 I wouldn't recommend this game even if it was free. You just walk around this house listening to yourself narrate your old life. There is nothing in this game. Besides the voice acting there is no content, and they didn't even need to lip-sync anything. Pass on this one. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.288027 1 1
232430 75163488 You can accidentally finish this game right off the bat and have no idea wtf is the context right after you cross the main door. It's not exactly a game as there aren't really any mechanics aside from finding lock number combinations. It's really good for the voyeur or busybody in you if you're into that kind of experience. Or if you just like chucking shit around. The ambient sounds are also kind of loud and obnoxious, I think they wanted to just add tension through unnecessary background music and sounds because there's no reason to be excited about anything. Nothing about the plot is really compelling. Lastly, this house is almost as absurd as the Edith Finch House, just unrealistic piles of shit room after room, at least the Finch house has an excuse, there are only 3 people in this one. Also, where are the mirrors in this house. I guess it is a psycho serial killer house after all. Get on a deep sale and just use it as a time filler for when you're listening to a podcast. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.455201 1 1
232430 74842926 Wast of time, just watch a 1hr walk through on youtube. There is no game-play, walk and listen. Why pay to interact with 1 mechanic when you could just easily watch for free. Game is not worth the hard drive space it takes up. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.617177 1 1
232430 74789364 I didn't like Lesbian Detective Simulator, this game gets you at first, but then is just kinda boring, played it on pc and the speed movement is way too slow, it makes you believe the character you play as suffered a legs accident and is using prostetics lol. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.799365 1 1
232430 74757644 No spoilers, but read if you want a very honest review from someone who has played hundreds of games in different genres. Where do I begin to express my sheer disappointment and boredom from this game? I HAD to do the gaming community a service as I JUST finished the game and needed to help anyone out who is considering buying this "I'm-13-years-old" puzzle. I expected some kind of excitement to happen, especially since this game takes place in a dark house during a thunderstorm. There were constant creepy clues that lead to nowhere and the narrative is basic and uninspiring to say the least. This game is perfect for an angsty teenager trying to figure out life and needs to kill two hours whilst avoiding schoolwork or the essay due tomorrow. The conclusion of the game failed to deliver any presupposed notions of suspense or excitement that is given by the thematic elements delivered when first beginning the game (i.e. creeky noises, pelting rain on the windows, big dark empty house, belongings strewn about, 1am timetable, notes, messages, etc...). I thought there would be a little more mystery or suspense since the game's description is telling you that. But trust me...it's not the mystery you will care even remotely about (considering that I guessed the ending twenty minutes in, thinking there was a more important narrative to discover). Basically, you go about collecting clues just to end up with an "are you kidding me, can I get a refund?" reaction at the end. It looks pretty though. I actually had more fun writing this review than playing the game...so there's that. If you are thinking about getting this game and you're still wondering where my rant leads you to believe...don't. 2021-03-14T05:52:09.982431 1 1
232430 18994984 Gone Home seemed to have potential. In general it was pretty creepy and you expect something to eventually happen, but (sorry if this spoils it) nothing ever does. The game is probably better if you start off with low expectations... or just don't play it. The story is okay. You find clues and then the game usually confirms your suspicions with sporadic pieces of monologue. Sound and music-- there isn't much. There is mostly silence and the occasional thunder and I liked that. When the game's music does come up it's because you triggered it and it has these warm tones that make you feel kinda good. Then there's the punk cassettes. The punk genre fits a part of the story, although I found these particular songs to be barely tolerable. There isn't much to the gameplay. Not a whole lot of purpose to your inventory. You can interact with almost any object but there usually isn't any significance to it since there is barely any puzzle solving. It's a walking simulator. Overall my expectations were too high going into this game. I kept thinking something scary was going to happen or something hugely serious, like finding your sister hanging from a noose in the next room, walking in on your parent's beating one another, your Uncle's ghost chasing you, or stumbling upon your old neighbor who came back for his Street Fighter game and is now going insane chopping up your whole family while you were away relaxing across the world for a year. Seriously, how well off are you that you can go on vacation for an entire f*cking year? Anyway, at one point the game basically tells you straightforward that you could potentially walk in on your sister banging. And you're like wow! This game is nuts! This could be hilarious and interesting! Then the story turns and it doesn't happen. Like I said, nothing ever happens. Gone Home is really just a waste of a few hours. It's like reading a dull short book that you can move around in and barely interact with. I originally bought this game because a friend and I thought it looked hilarious… 2021-03-14T05:52:10.158973 1 1
232430 73469916 Can I get the 3 hours of my life back? A pointless exercise in some sort of girl power/lesbian love story. I figured it out early on and should have quit playing, but I was hoping for some twists and turns and an unexpected conclusion. Nope, straight soap opera production, trying to tug at the heart-strings of someone other than me. That was truly a let-down. I downloaded this company's follow-up game "TACOMA" for free on Epic. After this, I'm hesitant to play it. 2021-03-14T05:52:10.339923 1 1
232430 73363562 initial loading title screen took 4-5 minutes to load me into the front porch. Overall speed at which I move also is agonizingly slow. So much I got some kind of uncomfy not being able to walk at a reasonable pace that I cannot play the game from this point. I have a fairly nice PC so idk if this is the game or not. 2021-03-14T05:52:10.530265 1 1
232430 47477681 Why is the Super Nintendo in Sam's room in the trailer but not in the game? So, I kinda knew I wouldn't like this because the store page said it was an adventure game with no puzzles. But I decided to buy it in the pack with Tacoma which I was more interested in. I was right. I don't like it. And it's because it's just not enough. A story is more than characters, in my opinion. And some things just don't make a lot of sense. Like why is the fort still set up in the living room? Does no one in this house clean? And some red herrings would have actually made a more interesting plot than what was delivered. The parents' room being a mess, for instance. I thought, perhaps there has been a break in? or the business with the possible ghost. But apparently the makers of the game agree with the sentiments of the grandfather in the nasty letter to his son that was discovered in the basement: that authors today cloud up their work with too much plot and it should just be about people. Well, in my opinion it just has to be about things happening to the people. Here's hoping I like Tacoma better. 2021-03-14T05:52:10.714314 1 1
232430 21673810 For all of the talk about the lesbian relationships, chasing your romantic dreams, running away from home, teenage angst and so on, there's one salient thing about this "game" that sinks it for me. What normal, rational family live in a house where half of it is only accessible by secret doors? It makes no sense in a game where the story and the feelings strive for sense. It is completely off-putting and ridiculous. 2021-03-14T05:52:10.887717 1 1
232430 72903538 boring. 2021-03-14T05:52:11.056309 1 1
232430 72893428 I got 80 minutes of gameplay, not obsessing over finding every single detail but not remotely trying to speedrun it. I played through it once, and I will most likely never touch it again. I'll be clear: it's an alright game. And if I had gotten it for free I would've been very happy with my experience. But is it worth paying more than 12€ for it? No, sorry, not a chance. What did I get out of this game? As a fan of rock and alternative music, I definitely enjoyed the posters of some of my favourite bands around the house, and the magazines covering stories of some hot celebrities in my circles (hot as in popular, thank you very much). And I sure did like the voice acting and I'd lie if I'd say I didn't get at least a little bit invested in the story of Sam and Lonnie. But mostly, I found the game quite boring. More puzzles would have been to its advantage. As for now, you just walk around a house (and god, what a slow walker you are), looking through drawers. For me just a bit bigger than my own home. I don't think it would be very much different to walk around in my own house, snooping through my own sisters' closets and boxes and looking at my own parents' old photos and casette tapes. Maybe that would even be more interesting. I'm sorry to say that - unless you have way too much money in your pocket or you know yourself to be super into realistic house touring game experiences - I can't recommend buying this game. 2021-03-14T05:52:11.221902 1 1
232430 72616039 Okay... 2 hours of my life: wasted. I honestly don't understand how this walking simulator got so many positive reviews. Right from the beginning, the game establishes a scenario in which the player is fooled into believing he is about to uncover a huge mystery or even a conspiracy. But what you get is one cliched pubescent self-discovery phase that tries to be in some way deep by adding a level of old-fashioned social taboo within its story that can be told in 3 sentences. And that is the biggest shortcoming in this game, because you never get to solve ANY of the mystery. I mean your whole family just vanished from the face of the earth, and the only thing you care about is the person you had a crush on when you where in highschool? Well that makes sense, so let's search the house for old souvenirs that had been collected by yourself when you where a rebellious brat back in the days, only to be constantly reminded along the way that you are looting your parents house who are still MISSING! Anyway, maybe I should rather keep on searching for crumpled doodles from my childhood instead of trying to find my family. I mean they could be kidnapped or even murdered, but the game dictates that it is more important that you howl after your ex-girlfriend. But if you think that at this point there are enough resources to take away the credibility of this game, you are wrong: For another reason, that you will also never know why, there are secret passages and rooms to be found that you don´t know about even though you are playing a charakter that obviously lived in this place before. There is no logic to it, when you uncover a secret room, only to find evidence of your younger self having been there before or even used those places as private playgrounds... Apparently, most players don't question such fundamental things. This game also has no philosophical or socially critical value and there are just too many inconsistencies for me to take it seriously. 2021-03-14T05:52:11.399114 1 1
232430 72571460 Tbh it would've been cheaper and more exciting to break into a stranger's house and rummage through their junk for 2 hours. Good if you enjoy walking simulators, especially of the slightly spoopy variety, but hopefully you care more about snooping around in the house than actually solving the mystery, because the mystery doesn't deliver in the end. I would recommend trying this game for free, but I wouldn't waste the money otherwise. 2021-03-14T05:52:11.568719 1 1
232430 72430507 Another game I played on recommendation, this time paid for. At least it was on sale and bundled with Tacoma, which has a review of its own. Gone Home has an interesting premise: you come home and everyone's missing so you have to go find out why. The graphics are ok and the setting is conveniently set in an old mansion during a stormy night, so the creepy factor is a 10/10. But this is not a horror game. Still, it makes the exploration keep you on your toes. There's lots of story to go around based on the lives of the multiple residents in the household, with plenty of spaces to investigate and items to observe or gather. Where this game falls short is the extremely slow pace your character walks, with no option to run. This makes the exploration less fun, especially if you're coming from the attic all the way down to the ground floor. I don't understand the "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews since Gone Home seems like any other FPS, except without shooting. Whatever. So, I may not have completed all the achievements in this game but I don't plan on playing it again just for it. 2021-03-14T05:52:11.747993 1 1
