59 | 232430 | 83210721 | The game begins strong. It’s dark, it’s raining, it’s thundering. The atmosphere is well set and a sense of impending doom is induced. Your mind quickly races to nefarious reasons for your house being empty on such a gloomy night, as you explore the house you do so with caution and that impending doom remains. Upon investigating the various rooms within the house, you find that your father is a failing author who specialises in the JFK conspiracy. Meanwhile you discover that due to your ‘psyco’ uncle’s recent death, your family has inherited this forever stained house, full of secret rooms and passages. Many clues of the potential supernatural hiding within the house are laid out. Through more searching, you discover that your sister Sam is very much a product of the 90s' and is enveloped within the punk scene, she is at the peak of her coming of age and her feelings towards another girl consumes her every thought. This relationship unfortunately becomes the prime motive of the entire game, and this is Gone Home’s downfall, the relationship is promoted to the forefront and provides only slight interest for the player. The biggest downfall, however is at the end of the game when you open the attic, all the built-up atmosphere and time you have spent exploring every corner of the house is completely wasted, and the player is left feeling disappointed. This is most defiantly not a fully-fledged game and even when on sale, you’re likely to regret your purchase. | 2021-03-14T05:52:04.104061 | 1 | 1 |
